INFORMATION ON NATURAL DESICCATED PORCINE THYROID EXTRACT
FOR PATIENTS AND DOCTORS

- Compiled by Sheila Turner -

I have recently compiled this  'Armour Thyroid Information Pack for Patients and Doctors’ and I would suggest that you post this to your doctor before your next appointment. That way it gives your doctor time to read and (hopefully) digest all the information.

I compiled this information because I was aware that my medical practitioners had been giving me incorrect information as to the reason why they would not prescribe natural thyroid extract. I have added a link to the ArmourThyroid.com FAQ in this Pack, which your doctor may wish to read. This has been compiled by Forest Pharmaceuticals, the US Manufacturers of Armour Thyroid. It may be advisable to download any relevant information for your doctor due to the time constraints that the majority of doctors regularly complain of.

There is a choice of two covering letters with this Pack, which you can send to your doctor.

Letter No. 1) This should be sent if this is the first time you are asking your doctor to change your synthetic medication to natural desiccated porcine thyroid extract (Thyroid USP) - Include Documents 1, 2 and 3.

Letter No. 2) This should be sent if you have previously asked your doctor and s/he has turned you down - Include Documents 1, 2 and 3.

My endocrinologist wrote to me on two separate occasions stating that he would not prescribe natural Thyroid USP for me. I sent him a copy of the information contained in this Pack and, at my appointment with him one week later, he told me that as I was obviously happy and had regained my health with this medication, he would prescribe this for me within the NHS.

After your GP or endocrinologist has read all this information, if s/he still refuses to prescribe Armour for you, then you should insist that s/he points you to the particular reference or information source on which s/he based that decision.

Letter No. 3) This is a letter to send to your local Primary Care Trust (PCT). It is important that you send this letter, as the PCT’s are responsible for funding this medication should your doctor agree to prescribe it.

There is also a note to pass on to your doctor from the MHRA should s/he be concerned about the action s/he needs to take in prescribing this.

Letter No. 4) You might wish to send this letter giving the Facts about Armour to your doctor in case s/he did not receive it when we sent it to GP's in August 2006.

Links to the letters and the related supporting documents are listed on the left, each letter appears on a separate page - just print it out. I hope that this course of action works as well for you as it has done for me.

Keep up the good fight. Never give up - never give in!

Best wishes

Sheila
